Gorin-no-Dôjô
Woodridge, Illinois
Established 1981

Gorin-no-Dôjô is an avenue through which serious, dedicated persons can pursue the classical martial arts and ways of Japan as a way of life. Our primary arts are Kenjutsu and Aikijutsu. Along with the technical aspect of each style, the curriculum for both arts include the study of:

Shodô - use of a brush to write Japanese.

Nihongo - the ability to speak and understand the Japanese language applicable in the dôjô.

Heihô - the understanding and application of strategy to attain a goal.

Established in 1981, we are the founding dôjô of the Chicago Budôkai located in Woodridge, Illinois, and are part of a network of independent dôjô throughout the country united by the particular arts we practice.

Gorin-no-Dôjô is a formal organization, and prospective students are required to schedule an appointment to watch a class prior to applying for membership. If after viewing a class the person wishes to join, he may request an interview with the head instructor of our dôjô. This process assures that the character, morals, goals and commitment of the applicant are compliant with that of our group. Gorin-no-Dôjô welcomes individuals who hold themselves to the highest personal standards, and are sincerely interested in dedicated study of the arts that we practice.

Training at our dôjô can be difficult and dangerous, so discipline is strict. Due to the serious nature of the training, a minimum age of 15 is required for regular classes. We do however offer a separate children's class for Aikijutsu, with a curriculum tailored for younger bodies and spirits.

The kaichô (head instructor) and founder of the Chicago Budokai is Mr. Rick Ritacco. He instructs at the Gorin-no-Dôjô and has been a student of the martial arts for over three decades.
